Dear brothers and sisters at AYWDN,
Formulating the new AU Continental Disability Strategy (CDS)
Johannesburg, South Africa
Warm greetings to you all!
A pivotal meeting that aims at developing the new Continental Disability Strategy (CDS) for the African Union (AU) is scheduled to take place from August 30th to September 4th, 2011 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This session will offer an opportunity to provide inputs into the process of formulating the AU CDS, which will soon be submitted to the relevant ministerial sessions and adopted by the African Heads of States Summit.
Without a doubt, this is indeed an ideal occasion for us, as African youth with disabilities, to make our voices heard effectively to African governments and pertinent regional/international institutions through the upcoming AU CDS document. It is a platform which, in many respects, would enable the YWD cause to resonate loud and clear in the Continent’s disability movement at all pertinent levels.
I will be participating in this important meeting in Johannesburg, and would like to hereby call upon all members of the AYWDN, as well as other leaders of YWD initiatives throughout Africa, to send me any input, comments, concerns, strategic suggestions and ideas that they want to see reflected on behalf of YWDs in the new AU Continental Disability Strategy. Hopefully, this vital document will be one that clearly underlines the challenges, roles, prospects and immense potentials of African youth with disabilities more than ever before. Let’s make this year count as a key turning point in our struggle for genuine change and inclusion!
Kindly, please forward your thoughts by email at email@example.com and/or by posting them on the AYWDN facebook page.
Look forward to hearing from you all.
